The Best Gift from my Mom...HAPPY

The Best Gift from my Mom...HAPPY

Spring is my happy time. Well, when am I not happy? I am (most of the time) a very positive upbeat person but something about spring blooming brings out my inner child, carefree spirit even more. My favorite babydoll I had as a child was named "Happy". ūüėä which has made me contemplate more of how I got this way.¬†

I owe a lot to my mom. She gave me Happy on my birthday! And now, over 50 years later I am still carrying Happy with me. Not literally, Happy is always in my heart and spirit. I was lucky enough to be raised by a full time mother who was always my biggest fan. As she still is today. Nobody wears more of my jewelry than my mom. She always has made me feel as I could do anything I set my mind to. She is the reason I started creating jewelry to begin with. She knows how passionate I am about design and jewelry and she always gives me the confidence to do what I love.

So, here I am today trying to thank her for all the Happy gifts she has given me through the years as she is getting ready for hip surgery this afternoon. My beautiful mom fell this week and broke her arm and her hip. She will heal and we will take the time this month to stop and slow down and cherish this time the whole family will be together to support and care for her. Because of her I am looking at the positive and thinking to the future.

I love you ūüėė Mom and get well soon!¬†

    Architectural Inspiration

Spring is just around the corner and I thought I would share with you a sneak peek at my new collection. Since a recent trip to Chicago I have had this shape in my mind.  I have been intrigued with organic shapes and contemporary design merging. I had a design popping into my head about a soft organic shape along with a hard edged geometric shape and how cool it would be to juxtapose the two of them ..

The following photos are my inspiration photos taken from architectural details from a condominium called the Wavy Building in Chicago designed by the amazingly innovative architect Jeanne Gang. Last November I stayed at the hotel across the street and every morning I left I took pictures of it at different times of the day.

Also this photo of an unbelievable yacht designed by Zaha Hadid was my main inspiration. It has the most gorgeous lines and movement. Both of them have this softness and hardness, contemporary yet timeless feel to them, and geometric yet organic shapes combined...

I was so enthralled with the designs above I thought it would be amazing to translate the soft abstract shapes in these structures into jewelry. I doodled ideas in my sketchbook until I came up with these designs. I love the idea of having these shapes suspended as pendants and worn with a soft deerskin cord that could be adjusted to be long or tripled to be a choker with the statement pendant hanging down and along with that came the idea of a modern innovative take on small knocker earrings.

These are in the works now and final pieces will be finished very soon... can't wait to share with you...

    All the best.

    New Horizons New Year

It's hard to believe another year has passed. I took this horizon sunset photo last year at this time. We were on a cruise ship celebrating my mom's big birthday. Seems like yesterday.

This is always a time for reevaluation and setting goals for a lot of people. You look back on the past year and look forward to all the possibilities a new year may bring. I have always been an optimist and am always excited to begin a new chapter.

My goals for this year include spending more time with people I love, sticking to my healthy lifestyle plan, being more present i.e. putting the phone down, and last but not least making all my creative visions come to fruition and sharing more of those visions online.

I wish all of my customers a year filled with peace, joy, and sparkle.

    Signature Transformations- Changes within.

It's taken months for me to write a new post to this blog. I am not sure if it's because I have been so busy working on my new collection or if I didn't want to share what brought on all these new designs. But I am ready now to share.

Last July my husband and I decided we were going to go to a nutritionist and start living a more healthy existence. It is now May and I have lost 27 lbs and have gone from a size 8 dress to a size 4. I never thought I was heavy but I was not happy with the way I looked even though I went to the gym and attended spinning classes and yoga regularly. But I was slowly gaining weight. It was time for a change.

Now I have changed my diet. I eat low fat, low sugar, low carb, and I still go to yoga, but now I do weight training and an exercise on the treadmill on a daily basis. The exercise is the best fat burner you can do... elevation 15, speed 2.5, for 45 minutes. The best part is I also eat 5 meals a day.

It is for this reason I have named this new collection... Signature Transformations. Not only because of the transformation that has happened to my body but the transformative designs of the pieces. Each piece in the collection looks different from different angles and it may take a minute or two to really see the different stylized forms and shapes hidden in the pieces.

I spent weeks designing and redesigning and while I was working I didn't even realize I was changing myself as well.
